Our Surf Sports Athletes

Surf Sports competition offers our volunteers the chance to test their skills and fitness against the very best lifesavers from around the country at various local, interstate and world carnivals. Surf Sports incorporates several different events based on the skills required on the job as a surf life saver from beach sprints to surf boats, boards, skis and ocean swimming. There is even an event that incorporates resuscitation and first aid.

Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club has many accomplished athletes amongst its ranks and coaching is available to all of our members no matter what skill level or age, all members are encouraged to join in the training session whether they just want to keep fit or training for competition. Our Junior Development program is helping our next generation of athletes develop to their full potential.

Ironman/Craft Events

Surf Ironman Events are the ultimate test of strength, stamina and fitness in surf lifesaving. The Multisport event combines ski, board and swimming to create lengthy and gruelling course. Events such as the Kelloggs Nutri-Grain Surf Ironman Series have brought Ironmen to the forefront of Surf Sports and have ensured the popularity of this sport has grown over the years.

Beach Events

Beach Events include beach sprints and long distance runs as well as the famous flags event and relays. The beach program is run by Coach Craig Parker, who has great success on the sand with several Branch, State, and World Champions including an Australian Championship himself.

Surf Boat Crews

At Surf Life Saving’s inception, Surf Boats were used as a means to pluck troubled swimmers from the water. While rescue methods have changed significantly over the years, Boaties still train to get the huge wooden boats out through the big surf break and back to shore again as quickly as possible. Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club has a number of champion boat crews including the Open Females who have achieved State, Australian and World Titles in the space of 2 seasons.

Rescue Events & IRB's

Rescue Events test lifesavers through simulating real life patrol situations in a competitive environment. It consists of a Patrol Competition which assesses a team on ‘patrol’, Champion Surf Life Saver which looks at the competitors individually and first aid skills. Rescue Events will see the teams rescue a patients and revive them under different circumstances.

IRB’s

IRB’s (Inflatable Rescue Boat) is competition that showcases the skills and abilities of drivers and crew people in a race and time exposed situation.  IRB racing is renowned for the thrills and spills that a single mistake can cause. There are multiple events in which a crew can compete, with each event being a simulation of a rescue situation and then transferred to a competitive environment.
