Michael King - Head Coach

The head coach of Mooloolaba SLSC is former Uncle Toby’s Ironman Series Champion and Coolangatta Gold Champion Michael King. For the past decade Michael currently oversees the training programs for all athletes throughout the club.

Michael is one of Surf Lifesavings most respected, successful and sought after coaches; he has trained a number of World, Australian, Kellogg’s Ironman Series and Coolangatta Gold Champions in the last 10yrs. Some of his current athletes include World and Australian champion Stephen Meredith, Coolangatta Gold Champion Rhys Drury, Coolangatta Gold and KNG Ironwomen Series Champion Alicia Marriot, 2 times KNG Ironman Series race winner Matt Poole as well as Kellogg’s Nutri Grain Series athletes Ali Day, Kendrick Louis, Gemma Newbiggin, Allira Richardson, Dylan Newbiggin, Alex Tibbits, Jack Hansen, Danielle Allen, Nikki Chapman and Kelly-Ann Perkins. Michael has also guided a number of international athletes to success at various national and international competitions.

The strength of Kingy’s program is his commitment to the club and his willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure Mooloolaba’s athletes are fully prepared to achieve their goals, regardless of what they may be. Michael’s experience, knowledge, drive and dedication make him not only one of the best coaches in surf lifesaving but one of the most well liked and respected people on the beach.

Steven Meredith - Ski & Development Coach

Steven “Mega” Meredith has been a member of Mooloolaba SLSC since the age of 10 yrs and has returned this season as the clubs ski coach. Steven is a former World and Australian Ski Race Champion, Australian Representative and Ironman Series Competitor. He brings a wealth of knowledge that he is hoping to impart onto the next generation of Mooloolaba athletes through his junior development ski program; Mega is one of Mooloolaba’s great clubmen and is an asset to the coaching staff.

Clint Irwin - Board & Development Coach

Clint Irwin is in charge of the junior board program at the club; Clint is a Level 2 High Performance Coach who has coached both State and Australian champions in recent years. Clint himself was a former Australian Finalist and State Champion in the board race. Clint aims to develop the skills of young athletes while ensuring they work hard, grow as athletes and most importantly have fun.

Peter Roodveldt - Beach Coach

Peter has come on in recent years to guide Mooloolaba’s beach competitors with great success. Peter is a level one accredited beach coach, a former international and national athletics coach and has coached both State and National Champions on the sand.

Grant Cooper - Boat Coach

Grant “Coops” Cooper is in charge of the Boat Program at Mooloolaba he is a level one accredited surfboat coach, has coached State & Australian Medallists and is himself an Australian A Grade Gold Medallist. Coops has the goal of returning Mooloolaba to being one of the top clubs in the boat arena; he is a leader in and around the club and one of Mooloolaba’s finest competitors.

Rhys Drury - Nipper Surf Coach

2007 Coolangatta Gold Champion and current Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Ironman Rhys Drury has returned to Mooloolaba this season to take on the nipper coaching role at Mooloolaba SLSC. Rhys brings over 20yrs of racing and coaching experience and will guide the juniors of the club in developing their skills, fitness and knowledge of the surf in a fun and safe environment. Rhys’ program is the basis of the clubs athlete and training pathway with the aim of developing the clubs nippers into competent surf lifesavers as well as Mooloolaba’s stars of the future.

Chase Young - Nipper Beach Coach

Chase Young is the Nipper beach sprint coach. He has been involved in beach sprinting through SLSQ for the past 6 years and currently competes in open Beach Sprinting. Chase holds a level 1 Surf Coach Certificate, a Diploma of Fitness, and a Diploma of Remedial Massage. At beach sprint training, Nippers get the opportunity to gain and improve running skills, work as a team, get fit, and have fun with other like minded kids. These are invaluable skills for life, and can compliment there other sporting commitments perfectly. Chase works closely with Peter Roodveldt (the senior beach coach) and the sessions are designed to set the Nippers up for a smooth transition into the senior ranks.
