What to bring: Towel (for stretching), water bottle, positive winning attitude

This is a great opportunity to increase speed and develop invaluable skills in the lead up to the nipper season. This training is ideal for nippers looking at improving for school sports such as Athletics, Football, Soccer, and of course, Beach Sprinting and Flags! In the coming weeks, flags training and another sprint session will begin on the beach at Mooloolaba. Timing is TBA.

Rhys Drury - Nipper Surf Coach

2007 Coolangatta Gold Champion and current Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Ironman Rhys Drury has returned to Mooloolaba this season to take on the nipper coaching role at Mooloolaba SLSC. Rhys brings over 20yrs of racing and coaching experience and will guide the juniors of the club in developing their skills, fitness and knowledge of the surf in a fun and safe environment. Rhys’ program is the basis of the clubs athlete and training pathway with the aim of developing the clubs nippers into competent surf lifesavers as well as Mooloolaba’s stars of the future.

Chase Young - Nipper Beach Coach

Chase Young is the Nipper beach sprint coach. He has been involved in beach sprinting through SLSQ for the past 6 years and currently competes in open Beach Sprinting. Chase holds a level 1 Surf Coach Certificate, a Diploma of Fitness, and a Diploma of Remedial Massage. At beach sprint training, Nippers get the opportunity to gain and improve running skills, work as a team, get fit, and have fun with other like minded kids. These are invaluable skills for life, and can compliment there other sporting commitments perfectly. Chase works closely with Peter Roodveldt (the senior beach coach) and the sessions are designed to set the Nippers up for a smooth transition into the senior ranks.
